Glass Fiber Filament
Chopped glass fiber blended into an engineering resin for high stiffness and strength with more toughness retained than carbon fiber. GF-reinforced filaments resist bending and heat deflection while staying more forgiving under impact — ideal for durable functional parts, brackets, and tooling.

What is glass fiber filament?
Glass fiber (GF) filament is an engineering base polymer — commonly nylon (PA-GF), PETG-GF, PP-GF, or PC-GF — reinforced with short chopped glass fibers. The fibers boost stiffness, strength, dimensional stability, and heat deflection temperature while keeping more of the base resin's toughness than carbon fiber does.
Compared with carbon fiber, GF is less abrasive-per-cost, cheaper, and less brittle, though also slightly less stiff and heavier. Like all fiber-filled materials it's abrasive, so a hardened nozzle is required. It produces a subtle matte, semi-translucent finish.
Glass fiber vs carbon fiber vs unfilled — how to choose
Reinforcement is a trade between stiffness, toughness, and cost:
Choose GF for the best balance of rigidity and durability; CF when weight and maximum stiffness dominate.
Printing glass fiber successfully
- Use a hardened nozzle. Glass fiber is abrasive and destroys brass nozzles.
- Dry the filament — GF nylon and similar bases are hygroscopic; dry before and during printing.
- Follow the base resin's profile — temps and enclosure needs come from the PA/PETG/PP/PC base.
- Larger nozzle (0.4–0.6 mm) reduces clogs from fiber content.
- Expect a matte, semi-translucent finish that hides layer lines.
