Bambu Lab A-Series — A1 & A1 mini Multi-Color 3D Printers

The A-Series is where most people start with Bambu Lab: fully auto-calibrating, pre-assembled, up to 500 mm/s, and multi-color out of the box with the AMS lite. The A1 gives a full 256 mm build; the A1 mini is a near-silent 180 mm machine that fits a desk or a classroom. Both are open-frame — the simplest, most affordable way into reliable, repeatable printing. This page compares the two and helps you decide whether to stay open-frame or step up to an enclosed P-Series.

How to choose

Choosing a Bambu Lab a-series machine

The decisions that actually matter for this class of machine — size them to your parts, not to a spec sheet.

Build size

The A1 prints a full 256 × 256 × 256 mm; the A1 mini is 180 × 180 × 180 mm. Pick the mini for desks, classrooms and smaller parts, the A1 when you want the same footprint as the P- and X-Series.

Multi-color

Both support the AMS lite for up to four colors or materials in one print. The A1 is sold alone or as an A1 Combo with the AMS lite — we can quote either.

Open vs enclosed

The A-Series is open-frame, ideal for PLA, PETG and TPU. If you need ABS, ASA or engineering materials, the enclosed P-Series holds chamber heat and traps fumes — that is the main reason to step up.

Noise & setup

Both arrive essentially pre-assembled with full auto-calibration. The A1 mini runs ≤48 dB with active noise cancellation, so it is comfortable in a shared room or a classroom.

Frequently asked questions

A1 or A1 mini — which should I buy?

If you need the full 256 mm build or plan to print larger parts, choose the A1. If space, budget or noise matter — a desk or a classroom — the A1 mini at $349 is the pick. Both auto-calibrate and both run the AMS lite for four-color printing.

Can the A-Series print in multiple colors?

Yes. Both the A1 and A1 mini support the AMS lite for up to four colors or materials in a single print. The A1 is available alone or as a Combo bundled with the AMS lite.

Can I print ABS or ASA on an A-Series?

The A-Series is open-frame and tuned for PLA, PETG, TPU and PET. For ABS, ASA or engineering materials that need a hot, enclosed chamber, step up to the enclosed P-Series (P1S or P2S).

Do they come assembled?

Yes — both ship essentially pre-assembled with full auto-calibration (bed leveling, flow rate and vibration compensation). You are printing within minutes of unboxing.
