In earlier versions of EXScan, working directly with individual projects was the standard. However, with newer releases of the software, a new structure called a Workspace or Work has been introduced.
A Work acts as a container or “parent” that holds multiple scan projects. While this is a more organized system, it can lead to confusion when trying to open older project files.
If your existing project is saved in formats like .rap_prj, .hd_prj, or .fix_prj, you might notice that they don’t appear when you try to open them through ‘Open Work’—which only recognizes .sln_rap, .sln_hd, or .sln_fix files.
Here’s a simple workaround to open your old projects:
Determine the Scan Mode Used:

.rap_prj= Handheld Rapid Scan -
.hd_prj= Handheld HD Scan -
.fix_prj= Fixed Scan

Create a New Work:

In EXScan, start a new Work.

Choose a save location and give your Work a name.

Once Inside the New Work Interface:
You have two ways to open your old project:

Click the ‘Project’ icon on the right side and choose ‘Project’ again.

OR go to the ‘Work’ section on the left and click ‘Open Project’.

Locate and Open Your Old Project File:

Use the file browser to find your
.rap_prj,.hd_prj, or.fix_prjfile. -
Select and open it—it will load within the new Work.

Important:
Make sure all associated project files are stored in the same directory. Without them, the project may not import properly.
