Signs a TMC2209 driver may need replacing
One axis skips steps, shifts layers or will not home, with the mechanics in good order.
A motor buzzes or stutters instead of turning cleanly.
Under-extrusion when the driver runs an extruder and the filament path is clear.
The fault moves to a different axis when the driver is swapped with a known good one.

Match the driver type
Several driver types appear on these printers, including the TMC2225 (115013), TB5128 (115015) and TMC5160 (115017). They are not interchangeable without firmware changes, because the printer is configured for the driver in each position. Check the marking on the failed module: if it reads TMC2209, this is the right replacement. Rev1 can identify it from a photo if you are unsure.
Installation tips
Turn the printer off and unplug it, and wait a moment before handling the electronics. Note the orientation of the old module, since a reversed driver can be damaged on power-up. Seat the new module fully, reconnect the motor and test the axis with a few manual moves before printing.
