On a printer with more than one Z lead screw, a timing belt is what keeps those screws turning together. Signs the Z-axis timing belt needs replacing
The bed keeps going out of level, even right after leveling.
First layers are squashed on one side of the plate and thin on the other.
Tall prints lean, or layers are uneven from one side of the part to the other.
The belt is cracked, frayed, missing teeth or has visibly stretched.
Compatible CreatBot 3D printer
The D1000 also uses a Z-axis motor belt, part 143018, which is a different belt. The D1000 HS has its own Z-axis timing belt, part 143024.
Keeping the Z drive in step
The most important part of this job is putting the Z drive back exactly in step. Before you remove the old belt, lower the bed or gantry onto supports or measure the height at each corner, and mark each pulley against its housing. Fit the new belt with every mark back in position. If the drive does go out of step, the bed will need to be trammed before leveling can work.
Installation tips
Power the printer off and unplug it. Support the moving Z assembly so it cannot drop or tilt. Release the tensioner, swap the belt with the pulley marks aligned, re-tension it, and turn the drive slowly by hand while you watch that all screws move together. Home the printer, run bed leveling and print a full plate first layer test.
