Signs the filament heater needs replacing
The filament compartment stays at room temperature with filament heating switched on.
Moisture symptoms return on materials that printed cleanly before: crackling at the nozzle, bubbles or heavy stringing.

What a PTC heater does
PTC stands for positive temperature coefficient. The ceramic element's resistance rises as it warms, so its output tapers off by itself as it approaches its working temperature. That self-limiting behavior is why PTC elements are a common choice for heating enclosed spaces such as a filament compartment.
Installation tips
Turn the printer off, unplug it and let the heaters cool before opening the filament compartment. Photograph the connectors and wire routing, then fit the new elements in the same positions as the old ones. Keep the leads clear of the spool path and any moving parts, close the compartment and run filament heating once to confirm it warms up before you load your next spool.
