TPI Filament
Among the most heat-resistant plastics you can print. TPI (thermoplastic polyimide) offers extreme continuous heat resistance, excellent wear and chemical resistance, and inherent flame retardancy — a specialty high-performance polymer for the most thermally demanding parts.

What is TPI filament?
TPI (Thermoplastic Polyimide) is a specialty high-performance thermoplastic in the polyimide family, known for among the highest heat resistance of any melt-processable polymer, along with excellent wear resistance, low friction, good chemical resistance, and inherent flame retardancy with very low smoke.
These properties place TPI at the extreme top of the material ladder, used for bushings, seals, electrical insulators, and thermally punishing components in aerospace, semiconductor, and industrial settings. Printing TPI requires specialized high-temperature hardware and rigorous drying, and it's typically specified where nothing lower on the ladder will survive.
TPI vs PEEK vs PEI — how to choose
At the top of the performance ladder:
TPI is a niche, top-of-ladder material — call (248) 707-2950 to confirm it's the right fit versus PEEK.
Printing TPI successfully
- High-temp printer required — high-temperature hotend and heated chamber.
- Dry rigorously — polyimides must be very dry.
- Manage thermal environment for low warp and strong layer bonding.
- Follow vendor profiles closely — these materials are unforgiving and grade-specific.
- Validate on test parts before committing to production.
