PVA Support Filament
Water-soluble support that simply washes away. PVA dissolves in plain water — no solvents, no snapping — leaving perfect surfaces on overhangs and reaching enclosed cavities that mechanical supports can't. The clean-finish choice for complex PLA and PETG prints.

What is PVA support filament?
PVA (Polyvinyl Alcohol) is a water-soluble support material — not a part material. Printed from a second extruder alongside your model, it holds up overhangs and bridges during printing, then dissolves completely in plain water, leaving smooth surfaces and freeing enclosed geometry that breakaway supports could never reach.
PVA pairs especially well with PLA and PETG, whose print temperatures suit it. Its one demand is care with moisture: PVA is extremely hygroscopic and must be kept bone-dry — wet PVA clogs, foams, and prints poorly. Stored and dried properly, it's the cleanest support solution for water-safe materials.
PVA vs HIPS vs breakaway support — how to choose
All three are supports; the removal method decides the winner:
Use PVA when your model is PLA or PETG and the geometry is too complex to peel by hand.
Using PVA support successfully
- Keep it bone-dry. PVA is extremely hygroscopic — store sealed with desiccant and dry before use; wet PVA clogs.
- Dual-extrusion required — print PLA/PETG as the model, PVA as support.
- Nozzle ~190–220 °C to match PLA/PETG temperatures.
- Dissolve in warm water — warm water and gentle agitation speed removal; no chemicals needed.
- Tune the interface gap for clean model surfaces.
