PPE Filament
A dimensionally stable, heat-resistant engineering plastic. PPE (modified polyphenylene ether, often blended with polystyrene) offers good heat resistance, excellent dimensional stability, very low moisture absorption, and available flame-retardant grades — common in electrical and appliance parts.

What is PPE filament?
PPE (Polyphenylene Ether) — also written PPO and usually supplied as a modified blend (often PPE/PS, e.g. Noryl-type) — is an amorphous engineering thermoplastic known for good heat resistance, excellent dimensional stability, very low moisture absorption, and good electrical-insulating properties. Many grades are flame retardant.
Its standout trait is very low water uptake, which keeps parts dimensionally stable in humid environments — unlike nylon. That makes PPE a good fit for electrical housings, appliance components, and fluid-handling parts. It's an amorphous polymer, so it warps less than semi-crystalline high-temp materials, but still benefits from a heated chamber.
PPE vs ABS vs PC — how to choose
PPE competes with mainstream engineering plastics on stability and heat:

Printing PPE successfully
- Dry the filament — though low-uptake, PPE still prints best dry.
- High nozzle temperatures — follow the grade's datasheet (well above ABS).
- Heated chamber / enclosure for layer strength and low warp.
- Strong bed adhesion and slow, hot printing for best results.
- Verify FR grade if flammability matters — not all PPE blends are rated.
