PC-ABS Filament

The best of both worlds. PC-ABS blends polycarbonate's strength and heat resistance with ABS's easier printability, giving automotive-grade toughness in a material that's more forgiving than pure PC — ideal for demanding functional parts and enclosures.

What is PC-ABS filament?

PC-ABS is an engineered blend of polycarbonate and ABS that captures the strengths of both: the high impact toughness and heat resistance of PC with the improved flow, reduced warping, and easier printability of ABS. It's a staple in automotive interiors and electronics housings for exactly this balance.

Compared to pure PC, PC-ABS prints at somewhat lower temperatures and warps less, making it a practical step up from ABS when you need more strength and heat resistance without jumping all the way to polycarbonate. Like both parents it prefers an enclosure and should be kept dry.

PC-ABS vs PC vs ABS — how to choose

Position PC-ABS between its two parents:

PC-ABSPC-grade toughness and heat with ABS-grade printability. Best when you need strength beyond ABS but easier printing than PC.
PC (Polycarbonate)Maximum strength and heat resistance — but harder to print, needs very high temps. Best for the most demanding structural parts.
ABSEasiest of the three, good general toughness and ~100 °C heat. Best for everyday functional parts.

PC-ABS is the pragmatic middle ground for automotive-grade functional parts.

Printing PC-ABS successfully

  • Dry the filament — the PC content makes it hygroscopic.
  • Nozzle 250–275 °C, bed 90–110 °C — between ABS and PC settings.
  • Use an enclosure to control warping and improve layer strength.
  • Minimal part cooling for strong layer adhesion.
  • Ventilate — like ABS, PC-ABS emits fumes while printing.
