Flame Retardant Filament
Self-extinguishing engineering plastic for safety-critical parts. Flame-retardant filaments are formulated to meet UL94 flammability ratings (often V-0), slowing ignition and stopping flame spread — built for electrical enclosures, transit, and aerospace components.

What is flame-retardant filament?
Flame-retardant (FR) filament is an engineering base resin — typically PC, ABS, PETG, PA, or high-temp polymers like PEI — compounded with flame-retardant additives so the material resists ignition and self-extinguishes instead of feeding a fire.
FR grades are certified to standards such as UL94 V-0, V-1, or V-2, which describe how quickly a vertical sample stops burning and whether it drips flame. This makes them the required choice for electrical enclosures, junction boxes, rail/transit interiors, and aerospace parts where flammability is regulated.
Flame-retardant vs standard filament — how to choose
Choose by whether a flammability spec applies:
Confirm the exact UL94 rating and thickness the standard requires — a V-2 grade won't satisfy a V-0 spec.
Printing flame-retardant filament successfully
- Follow the base resin's profile — FR additives ride on a PC/ABS/PA/PEI base with its own temps and enclosure needs.
- Dry the filament — most FR bases are hygroscopic and moisture ruins strength and finish.
- Maintain solid walls and infill — UL94 ratings are thickness-dependent; thin walls may not hold the rating.
- Verify on printed samples if the part is safety-critical — process affects real-world flame behavior.
- Ventilate and follow the manufacturer's handling guidance.
