SHINING 3D FreeScan Trak — Dynamic-Tracking Metrology Scanners

The FreeScan Trak series puts a FreeScan laser head inside an optical dynamic-tracking system — the scanner is tracked in space so you measure large parts target-free, without sticking markers to the work. Trak Nova and Trak Nova+ pair a TE Nova tracker with a UE Nova head; the Trak Pro2 adds 50 crossed laser lines and deep-hole scanning; and the Trak ProW and ProW+ scale to the largest volumes with patented markerless VPG photogrammetry. All are certified to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360. This page compares the five.

How to choose

Choosing a SHINING 3D freescan trak machine

The decisions that actually matter for this class of machine — size them to your parts, not to a spec sheet.

Why tracking

Dynamic tracking follows the scanner in space, so you measure large or fixed parts without markers — faster setup, no target residue, and consistent accuracy across a big volume.

Volume & accuracy

All five hold up to ~0.02–0.023 mm accuracy. The ProW/ProW+ publish volumetric accuracy across 12–100 m³ (0.046–0.125 mm), so you can size the right model to your largest parts.

Line modes

High-speed crossed-line modes (50–62 lines) cover surfaces fast; 7-line detail mode resolves fine features; a single-line deep-pocket mode reaches into holes and recesses (1:4 ratio on the Pro2).

Nova vs Pro vs ProW

Nova/Nova+ are the core dynamic-tracking systems; the Pro2 adds deep-hole capability; the ProW/ProW+ add the largest tracked volumes and wireless operation on the ProW+.

Frequently asked questions

Which FreeScan Trak is right for my parts?

For core target-free tracking, the Trak Nova or Nova+; for deep-hole and fine detail, the Trak Pro2; for the largest volumes (to 100 m³), the Trak ProW, and the ProW+ when you want wireless operation too. Tell us your part size and tolerance and we will size it.

What does dynamic tracking give me?

The scanner is tracked optically in space, so you measure large or fixed parts without sticking markers to them — faster setup, no target residue, and consistent volumetric accuracy across a big measurement volume.

Are these certified metrology scanners?

Yes — every FreeScan Trak is certified to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360 in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab, with patented VPG photogrammetry for markerless global accuracy.

What support comes with a FreeScan Trak from Rev1?
