Glossy PETG is tough and durable, but its shiny surface makes layer lines stand out. Rev1 PETG Matte uses a matting additive in the formulation so the surface scatters light diffusely — you keep PETG’s strength, impact resistance, and heat tolerance while gaining a consistent flat finish that hides layer lines in every color. Durable enough for real parts, and it looks finished the moment it leaves the printer.

Why a matte PETG matters

Glossy filament reflects light unevenly, making layer lines, stringing, and surface imperfections visible under any angled light. A matte surface scatters light uniformly, hiding the texture of print layers and giving parts a clean, professional appearance — and with PETG underneath, the part is genuinely functional, not just decorative.

Mechanical Performance

PETG Matte carries PETG’s mechanical baseline: tough and impact-resistant, more flexible and far less brittle than PLA or PLA Matte, with better heat resistance and good chemical and moisture resistance. That makes it a genuine step up for functional parts — for the highest heat or UV exposure consider ABS or ASA, and for maximum stiffness step up to a carbon-fiber grade from the Rev1 catalog.

Print Settings

Works on any FDM printer with standard PETG settings.

Rev1 PETG Matte prints on any FDM machine with a standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle and no enclosure. It runs slightly hotter than PLA — if you have a working PETG profile, use it as a starting point. PETG can string a little; a touch more retraction and a small travel-speed bump keep it clean and let the matte finish come through evenly.

For the cleanest matte finish, use 3–4 perimeters and tune retraction to minimize stringing. A 0.4 mm brass nozzle is all you need — no all-metal hot end or hardened nozzle required.

PETG absorbs moisture. Keep it sealed.

PETG is hygroscopic and will absorb moisture from the air, leading to stringing, bubbling, and reduced surface quality. Rev1 PETG Matte ships sealed with a desiccant pack. After opening, reseal with desiccant or store in an airtight container.

Common questions about Rev1 PETG Matte

Can I print PETG Matte at standard PETG settings?

Yes. Start with your existing PETG profile — nozzle 230–250°C, bed 70–90°C, no enclosure needed. PETG runs hotter than PLA and can string a little, so tune retraction and add a small travel-speed bump for the cleanest matte surface. A standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle is all you need.

Why are some colors on preorder?

Rev1 stocks Black and White in Michigan because those are highest-volume. Other colors are produced in batches by the manufacturer — we place orders on your behalf with a 1–3 week fulfillment time. You pay no premium over the in-stock price.

Is PETG Matte tougher than PLA Matte?

Yes. PETG is stronger, more impact-resistant, more flexible, and far less brittle than PLA, with better heat resistance (~70–80°C) plus chemical and moisture resistance — a genuine functional upgrade over PLA Matte while keeping the same flat matte look. For maximum heat or UV exposure choose ABS or ASA; for the easiest printing choose PLA or PLA Matte; for maximum stiffness step up to a carbon-fiber grade.

Does matte finish hide layer lines completely?

It significantly reduces layer-line visibility, especially under angled light, but it does not eliminate them entirely, and the matte surface hides fine surface detail slightly — it is not glossy. Very coarse layer heights (0.3 mm+) will still show some texture. For the cleanest result, print at 0.15–0.20 mm layer height.
