SHINING 3D EinScan H2 Hybrid LED & Infrared Light Source · Full-Color Handheld · Face & Body Capture
The previous-generation EinScan H2 hybrid-light-source handheld 3D scanner — white LED for fast, high-quality data and infrared VCSEL for dark surfaces, the human body, and bright-lit rooms. Its people-and-body capture role is now served by the wireless, all-in-one EinScan Medixa, purpose-built for orthotics & prosthetics.
The EinScan H2 pairs a white-LED engine with an invisible infrared VCSEL source and three VCSEL projectors, a 5 MP color texture camera, and an ultra-wide field of view up to 780 × 900 mm — built for photorealistic full-color capture of faces, bodies, sculpture, and large objects. For body and clinical work its role has since been taken up by the wireless, all-in-one EinScan Medixa — a handheld purpose-built for O&P. Full specifications →
The EinScan H2 is a previous-generation model. For body and O&P capture, the current replacement is the wireless, all-in-one EinScan Medixa — Rev1 will confirm availability of remaining H2 stock or map you to the current model. Questions? Call (248) 707-2950.

The EinScan H2 Is Previous-Generation. For Body & O&P Work, the Current Model Is the EinScan Medixa.
A Full-Color Hybrid-Light Handheld for People and Objects
The EinScan H2 combines a white-LED light source with an invisible infrared VCSEL engine and three VCSEL projectors in a single handheld. LED mode delivers fast, accurate, high-quality data on objects; infrared mode is ideal for capturing dark surfaces, the human body, and subjects in brightly lit environments — all with a 5 MP color camera for photorealistic texture in one pass.
White LED for Detail. Infrared VCSEL for Skin, Dark Surfaces, and Bright Rooms.
Two Light Engines, One Handheld
The H2 carries a white-LED light source and an invisible infrared VCSEL source driven by three VCSEL projectors. LED mode enables fast 3D scanning with accurate, high-quality data on objects and machined parts. Infrared mode is ideal for capturing dark surfaces, the human body, and subjects in bright-lit environments — cases where structured white light alone struggles. Switch source to suit the subject without changing scanners.
Photorealistic Texture, Captured With the Geometry
The H2’s 5 MP color camera records high-resolution texture and combines it with precise 3D geometry to produce photorealistic 3D models in a single pass. Rich, faithful color makes the difference for face and body capture, art restoration, virtual displays, and digital archiving where appearance matters as much as shape — no separate texture rig, no offline mapping step.
Up to 780 × 900 mm Per Pass. Rich Geometry Means No Markers.
Cover Big Subjects in Fewer Passes
An ultra-wide field of view up to 780 × 900 mm in infrared mode digitizes large areas quickly, with a working distance that adjusts from 200 mm right out to 1500 mm. Full torsos, furniture, vehicle panels, and sizeable props capture in fewer sweeps — the marker-free workflow uses rich geometric features for tracking, so most subjects need no dot stickers at all.
Built Around Human Capture — Skin, Movement, and Comfort.
Infrared Light Made for Scanning People
The invisible infrared VCSEL source is comfortable for human subjects — no bright projected pattern in the eyes — and captures skin, hair, and tone where structured white light struggles. Combined with the ultra-wide field of view, the H2 digitizes a full torso or limb quickly enough to stay ahead of natural movement, then bakes in full color for a true-to-life result.
Orthopedics, Prosthetics, and O&P Fabrication
For orthotics and prosthetics, the H2 captures limbs, sockets, and torsos directly from the patient and feeds the data into O&P design software. The dedicated EXScan O&P workflow and BlueStar mapping turn a comfortable, marker-free scan into a fit-ready surface — a faster, cleaner alternative to plaster casting for custom-fit devices.
From the Clinic Bench to a Custom-Fit Device.
Comfortable, Marker-Free Patient Capture
The H2’s infrared source and wide field of view make chair-side capture practical: scan a limb or torso directly, in full color, without bright pattern projection or plaster. Data flows into EXScan O&P and downstream design tools so the clinic can move from scan to fabricated device faster and more comfortably for the patient.
Cranial Remodeling and Custom Orthoses
Full-color, marker-free head and body capture supports cranial remodeling helmets and other custom orthoses. A comfortable infrared scan of an infant’s head — no bright light, no contact — produces the surface data that drives a precise, custom-fit device, with color texture aiding documentation and patient communication.
Soft Goods, Textiles, and Wearables
Beyond the body itself, the H2 handles draped textiles, soft goods, and wearables — folds, fabric, and irregular forms that rigid-surface scanners find difficult. Marker-free tracking and full color make it a practical tool for fashion, costume, and protective-gear design where both shape and appearance carry into the deliverable.
EXScan H for Capture. Open Exports for Your CAD Stack.
The H2 ships with EXScan H software and works with the O&P workflow. Export into EXModel, Geomagic Design X, or PolyWorks Inspector — no proprietary lock-in.
Capture, Clean, and Mesh in EXScan H
EXScan H handles capture, alignment, and mesh editing — texturing, simplification, mesh optimization, smoothing, removal of small floating parts, auto and manual hole filling, a facial-fill tool, a cutting-plane tool, and mirror. The result is a clean, watertight, full-color mesh ready for art reproduction, heritage archiving, or downstream design without bouncing between applications.
High-Quality Data for Reverse Engineering
In LED mode the H2 captures accurate, high-quality data on objects and machined parts — the foundation for reverse engineering and dimensional comparison. Exports flow as STL, OBJ, PLY, and ASC straight into Geomagic Design X, EXModel, and PolyWorks Inspector so a scan becomes a parametric model or an inspection report without re-capture.
Dedicated O&P Software and BlueStar Mapping
For clinical users the H2 pairs with EXScan O&P, a workflow built specifically for orthotics and prosthetics, and BlueStar texture mapping for faithful color. Together they take a comfortable, marker-free patient scan and prepare it as a fit-ready surface — a complete capture-to-design path for custom-fit medical devices.
Face & Body. Reverse Engineering. Heritage. Art & Archiving.
One hybrid-light handheld covers full-color human capture, scan-to-CAD with reverse-engineering software, cultural-heritage preservation, and digital archiving. For a current-generation handheld built around body and O&P capture — wireless, all-in-one, with on-board processing — see the EinScan Medixa.
EinScan H2 vs. the Current EinScan Medixa
The H2 is a previous-generation hybrid-light handheld strong at people and body capture. For that body and O&P role its successor in the Rev1 line-up is the current-generation EinScan Medixa — here is how they line up on the capabilities that decide a new purchase.
| Capability | EinScan H2 (previous gen) | EinScan Medixa (current) |
|---|---|---|
| Status | Phased out — legacy | Current model |
| Built for | Face, body & objects | Orthotics & prosthetics — purpose-built |

Figures are from publicly available SHINING 3D manufacturer information and vary by configuration; provided by Rev1 Technologies for general orientation. The H2 remains a capable full-color hybrid-light handheld for face, body, and heritage work; buyers seeking a current-generation handheld purpose-built for orthotics & prosthetics — wireless, all-in-one, with on-board processing and a built-in screen — should consider the EinScan Medixa. Rev1 walks the cross-shop during application review.
