A Paper Trail QA Can Defend — Not Just a Datasheet

A scanner’s headline number is a single-point figure at the calibration plate. What an inspection workflow actually needs is volumetric accuracy across the working volume, repeatability across operators, and traceability to a recognized standard. The FreeScan UE Pro2 holds 0.02 mm single-point accuracy and 0.02 + 0.015 mm/m volumetric accuracy with Video Photogrammetry engaged, validated to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360 in SHINING 3D’s ISO/IEC 17025 accredited Accuracy Lab — the same family of standards used to qualify CMMs and laser trackers, with documentation Rev1 supplies for audit and regulated workflows on request.

50 Crossed Blue-Laser Lines — 3.46M pts/s at 180 FPS

Fifty crossed blue-laser lines deliver up to 3,460,000 points per second at 180 frames/s for high-speed area capture — double the throughput of the prior UE Pro generation. Blue-laser light has low sensitivity to ambient light and surface reflectivity, so the UE Pro2 stays stable on machined, polished, dark, and reflective surfaces that trip up structured-light systems, with point distance adjustable from 0.01–10 mm to match part detail.

Three Scanners in One Body

Switch the optical mode to the job: the 7-line parallel mode resolves fine detail on intricate geometry, and the dedicated single-line mode reaches into deep holes and small bores where area modes cannot. One wireless body covers high-speed area capture, fine-feature inspection, and deep-feature measurement — no second scanner, no tool change. The 50-line mode works at 300 mm and the 7-line mode at 200 mm.

Video Photogrammetry

Large-Assembly Accuracy Without Sticking a Single Marker.

Operator scanning a large part with the wireless FreeScan UE Pro2, holding volumetric accuracy with no coded targets on the surface

VPG Replaces the Coded-Target Ritual

Large-part metrology traditionally means hours of sticking and removing coded targets (the Creaform C-Track / AICON reference workflow) before you can start. The UE Pro2’s patented binocular Video Photogrammetry builds the global reference frame in real time from the scanner’s own video stream — holding 0.02 + 0.015 mm/m volumetric accuracy on big assemblies with zero markers on the surface, cutting roughly 50% of the marker-prep time. The onboard Embedded Computing Module keeps wireless frame rate equal to tethered USB-C, so the marker-free advantage costs no throughput.

Finish the Inspection in a Pass, Not a Shift

Fifty crossed blue-laser lines at 180 frames/s let the UE Pro2 acquire up to 3,460,000 points per second — so a part is digitized quickly with fewer overlapping captures, fewer alignment seams, and less operator fatigue. On audit-grade work, throughput is what decides whether first-article inspection keeps pace with the line. The point rate doubles the prior UE Pro generation without trading away the 0.02 mm accuracy class — see it run in the SHINING 3D demo below.

Wireless Workflow

Cut the Cable. Walk the Part. Same Throughput.

FreeScan UE Pro2 wirelessly inspecting a large automotive monocoque assembly with lab-cert audit-grade accuracy

Built-In Computing, USB-C PD Power, IP50 Body

The UE Pro2 runs fully wireless, with an onboard Embedded Computing Module that processes frames on the scanner so wireless capture matches tethered USB-C throughput — no perf penalty for cutting the cable. A 305.8 × 118.9 × 100.8 mm aluminum-alloy chassis at 950 g, USB-C PD 100 W power (powerbank, wall, or workstation — no internal battery to manage), and an IP50, -20 to 40 °C rating make it at home on the plant floor or an unconditioned shop. A USB 3.0 tethered mode is there for fixed-station work.

Cable-free, not PC-free: wireless mode requires a Wi-Fi 6 router on the shop network (the scanner does not peer directly to a laptop), and a Windows workstation running FreeScan / EXScan / Inspect stays in the workflow — the wireless link replaces the USB-C cable, not the PC. For a fully PC-free standalone workflow at professional-tier (not metrology-cert) accuracy, see the EinScan Libre.

Buyer FAQ

FreeScan UE Pro2 — questions buyers ask before ordering.

What accuracy can the UE Pro2 hold, and is it certified?
Up to 0.02 mm single-point accuracy and 0.02 + 0.015 mm/m volumetric accuracy with Video Photogrammetry engaged (0.02 + 0.03 mm/m without VPG), validated to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360 in SHINING 3D’s ISO/IEC 17025 accredited Accuracy Lab. Rev1 provides certification documentation for audit and regulated workflows on request. (ISO/IEC 17025 accredits the testing lab, not the device itself.)
Is the UE Pro2 really fully wireless?
Yes — but it is cable-free, not PC-free. Wireless mode replaces the USB-C cable between scanner and workstation, with an onboard Embedded Computing Module keeping wireless throughput equal to tethered USB-C. It does require a Wi-Fi 6 router on the shop network (the scanner does not peer directly to a laptop), and a Windows PC running FreeScan / EXScan / Inspect is still part of the workflow. A USB 3.0 tethered mode is available for fixed-station work. For fully PC-free standalone scanning at professional-tier accuracy, see the EinScan Libre.
What are the three laser modes for?
The 50-line crossed mode is for high-speed area capture (up to 3,460,000 pts/s at 180 FPS); the 7-line parallel mode resolves fine detail on intricate geometry; and the single-line mode reaches into deep holes and small bores. It is effectively three scanners in one body — no tool change between high-speed, fine-detail, and deep-feature work. The UE Pro2 is a pure blue-laser scanner with no IR mode.
Does it need markers or scanning spray?
For most work, no. Patented binocular Video Photogrammetry (VPG) builds the global reference frame from the scanner’s own video — no coded targets stuck to the part — cutting roughly 50% of marker-prep time on large assemblies. Blue-laser light handles dark, shiny, and reflective surfaces without spray on most materials. Very challenging finishes can still benefit from spray, and Rev1 scopes that during application review.
How does the UE Pro2 differ from the Combo Series and UE Nova?
All three share the FreeScan optical engine and software. The UE Pro2 is the wireless lab-cert 0.02 mm handheld for audit-grade inspection and RE. The FreeScan Combo Series is the tethered 0.02 mm sibling that adds an IR VCSEL mode for soft / dark / large parts without spray, at a lower price — choose it when wireless isn’t required. The FreeScan UE Nova is the wide-FOV (2.6 × 2.2 m) large-asset scanner for ships, blades, and haul trucks. Rev1 helps you pick during application review.
What software ships with it, and what does it integrate with?
Capture and process in FreeScan, with native GD&T inspection in PTB-certified SHINING3D Inspect. It exports STL, OBJ, PLY, ASC, P3, 3MF, and NSP into Geomagic Design X, Geomagic Control X, Geomagic Wrap, PolyWorks Inspector, and EXModel with no proprietary lock-in.
How does it compare to a Creaform HandySCAN BLACK or Hexagon AS1?
The Creaform HandySCAN BLACK | Elite is the industry-standard metrology punch-up (0.025 mm single-point, 11-cross blue-laser, tight Creaform / VXelements / PolyWorks integration) — at roughly three times the price and a marker-required workflow. The UE Pro2 delivers comparable 0.02 mm accuracy and the same VDI/VDE 2634 certification on a wireless, markerless-VPG workflow at materially lower cost. Punch up to Creaform or the Hexagon Absolute Scanner AS1 only when the QA workflow is already on that ecosystem; otherwise the UE Pro2 is the measurement-grade scanner at a fraction of the cost. Rev1 walks the cross-shop during application review.
Is Rev1 an authorized SHINING 3D dealer, and what support is included?
Yes — Rev1 Technologies is an authorized SHINING 3D FreeScan reseller and factory-trained support partner based in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Purchases include application review, scan-mode and software selection, calibration verification, operator training, and US-based phone and video support with authorized service routing — warranty service never routes through grey-market channels.
