A Paper Trail QA Can Defend — Not Just a Datasheet

For large assets, the number that matters is volumetric accuracy across the whole working volume — not a single-point figure measured at arm’s length. The FreeScan UE Nova holds 0.072 mm single-point accuracy and 0.072 + 0.012 mm/m volumetric accuracy with integrated photogrammetry, validated to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360 in SHINING 3D’s ISO/IEC 17025 accredited Accuracy Lab. That is the same family of standards the metrology industry uses to qualify large-volume trackers — with traceable documentation Rev1 supplies for audit and regulated workflows on request.

Video Photogrammetry

Large-Volume Accuracy Without Sticking a Single Marker.

FreeScan UE Nova Video Photogrammetry holding global accuracy on a large wind-turbine blade with no coded targets

VPG Replaces the Coded-Target Ritual

Photogrammetry normally means hours of sticking and removing coded targets before you can even start scanning a large part. The UE Nova’s integrated Video Photogrammetry builds the global reference frame in real time from the scanner’s own video stream plus the supplied calibration rod — so a ship hull, blade, or fuselage holds large-volume accuracy with zero markers on the surface. Set up in minutes, not hours, and scan parts that would otherwise need a separate photogrammetry pass.

Blue Laser for Industrial Surfaces and Ambient Light

Blue-laser light has low sensitivity to ambient light and surface reflectivity, so the UE Nova scans dark, shiny, and outdoor surfaces that trip up structured-light systems — on the shop floor or out in the yard. Fifty parallel laser lines cover wide surfaces in a single pass while holding stable accuracy, and resolution spans 0.5–10 mm so you capture the geometry that matters without drowning in points on a large asset.

Superior Material Compatibility

From rusted castings and machined steel to reflective aluminum and painted panels, the UE Nova captures dependable data across normal, black, and reflective surfaces — indoors and outdoors — without spray on most parts. That material latitude is what lets one wireless scanner cover a foundry, a fabrication bay, and a field-service job without changing tools.

Scan Speed

4,600,000 Points Per Second Across a Wide Field.

Cover the Big Part in One Pass, Not Ten

Fifty blue-laser lines and a wide field of view let the UE Nova acquire up to 4,600,000 points per second — so a large panel, hull section, or casting is digitized in a sweep instead of a grid of overlapping captures. Fewer passes means fewer alignment seams, less drift on big assets, and an operator who covers more square metres before a battery swap. On a wide field, speed is not a vanity number — it is whether the job finishes in a shift.

Buyer FAQ

FreeScan UE Nova — questions buyers ask before ordering.

What accuracy can the UE Nova hold, and is it certified?
Up to 0.072 mm single-point accuracy and 0.072 + 0.012 mm/m volumetric accuracy with Video Photogrammetry engaged, validated to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360 in SHINING 3D’s ISO/IEC 17025 accredited Accuracy Lab. The UE Nova is tuned for large-volume capture — its accuracy class is sized for big assets, not fine-detail benchtop parts. Rev1 provides certification documentation for audit and regulated workflows on request. (ISO/IEC 17025 accredits the testing lab, not the device itself.)
Is the UE Nova really fully wireless?
Yes. The UE Nova has onboard computing modules and detachable, hot-swappable batteries, so it runs completely cable-free — you can walk around a hull, climb scaffolding, or circle a haul truck with no tether. Swap a low battery and keep scanning with no lost session. A wired fiber-optic mode is also available for fixed-station work when you prefer a constant connection.
How big a part can it scan, and how far back can I stand?
The single-frame field of view reaches 2.6 × 2.2 m and the scanner works at up to 2.6 m of distance, with a 2,300 mm depth of field. Three selectable ranges — Near (300–800 mm), Standard (600–1,500 mm), and Far (1,200–2,600 mm) — let you get close for detail or stand well back to capture a whole structure. It is built for large assets: ships, blades, rail cars, mining equipment.
Does it need markers or scanning spray?
For most large-asset work, no. Integrated Video Photogrammetry (VPG) builds the global reference frame from the scanner’s own video and a calibration rod — no coded targets stuck to the part. Blue-laser light handles dark, shiny, and reflective surfaces without spray on most materials. Very challenging finishes can still benefit from spray, and Rev1 scopes that during application review.
How does the UE Nova differ from the FreeScan Trak Nova and Combo Series?
All three share the FreeScan optical engine and software. The UE Nova is the wireless wide-FOV handheld for large assets (2.6 × 2.2 m field, 0.072 mm class). The FreeScan Trak Nova adds wireless dynamic optical tracking for the tightest large-volume accuracy, and the FreeScan Combo Series is the tethered 0.02 mm fine-detail hybrid scanner. Rev1 helps you pick the right one for your parts during application review.
What software ships with it, and what does it integrate with?
Capture and process in FreeScan Trak, with native GD&T inspection in PTB-certified SHINING3D Inspect. It exports STL, OBJ, PLY, ASC, and 3MF into Geomagic Design X, Geomagic Control X, PolyWorks Inspector, EXModel Pro, and BlueStar Mapping with no proprietary lock-in.
How does it compare to a Creaform HandySCAN or Scantech KSCAN?
Those are tethered metrology scanners with tighter single-point accuracy (around 0.020–0.025 mm) on smaller fields of view, typically priced well above the UE Nova. The UE Nova wins where the asset is big and the job is in the field: an extra-large 2.6 × 2.2 m field of view, fully wireless operation, markerless VPG, and a lower cost of coverage. If you need the tightest fine-detail accuracy on smaller parts, the FreeScan Combo Series is the better fit — Rev1 walks the cross-shop during application review.
Is Rev1 an authorized SHINING 3D dealer, and what support is included?
Yes — Rev1 Technologies is an authorized SHINING 3D FreeScan reseller and factory-trained support partner based in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Purchases include application review, working-range and software selection, calibration verification, operator training, and US-based phone and video support with authorized service routing — warranty service never routes through grey-market channels.
