AutoScan Inspec2 0.01 mm accuracy with dual 5 MP cameras and blue LED structured light

Two to Five Times More Accurate Than Handhelds

Two 5 MP cameras and blue LED structured light resolve dense, detailed point clouds across even the smallest components, at 0.01 mm accuracy with 0.05 mm point distance. The fixed desktop format eliminates the positional variability of handheld systems — the accuracy threshold for actionable inspection data in aerospace, automotive, electronics, medical-device, and jewelry work.

One Continuous Workflow — No Hand-Offs

The scan flows straight from UltraScan into SHINING 3D Inspect: align to nominal CAD, apply your GD&T scheme, and generate the inspection report — without exporting between tools or re-fixturing the part. First-article inspection that took an afternoon on a CMM queue happens at the bench in minutes.

Buyer FAQ

AutoScan Inspec2 — questions buyers ask before quoting.

How does the AutoScan Inspec2 compare to a CMM for first-article inspection?
A CMM measures discrete points along a programmed probe path; the Inspec2 captures the whole surface as a dense point cloud, so you inspect every feature at once and see whole-part deviation as a color map against nominal CAD. It is dramatically faster to set up for free-form and complex geometry, needs no fixturing or probe path, and its dual PTB-certified results are internationally traceable — while a CMM keeps the edge on deep bores and single-point tolerances tighter than 10 µm.
What size parts can the AutoScan Inspec2 scan?
The field of view is 140 × 90 × 80 mm — it’s designed for small to medium objects within that volume. Larger objects can be scanned in sections; for parts exceeding a ~430 × 300 mm field of view, the SHINING 3D OptimScan Q Series is the better fit.
What does dual PTB certification mean for the inspection results?
PTB is Germany’s national metrology institute. Dual certification covers both Gaussian (least-squares) and Chebyshev (minimax) fitting, so the same system produces traceable inspection results under either methodology — useful when different customers or audits require different fitting standards.
Can it scan reflective or dark surfaces?
Blue LED performs well on standard surfaces. For highly reflective surfaces (polished metal, chrome) or very dark surfaces (matte black plastic, carbon fiber), a temporary scanning spray before scanning is recommended. For frequent challenging surfaces, the FreeScan Combo handheld (blue-laser mode) is a strong complement.
What software is included with purchase?
UltraScan (AI algorithm, automatic calibration, multi-object mode, full-color texture) and SHINING 3D Inspect (dual PTB-certified, with GD&T, dimensional analysis, and report generation) — both included without a subscription. Results export to Geomagic Control X, PolyWorks Inspector, EXModel, and Geomagic Design X.
What does Rev1 include with an AutoScan Inspec2 purchase?
Delivery anywhere in the U.S., on-site scanner setup and calibration, UltraScan installation and configuration, SHINING 3D Inspect template setup for your part types, and hands-on operator training. A free demo on your own parts is available before purchase. Call (248) 707-2950.
Can the AutoScan Inspec2 be used for reverse engineering, not just inspection?
Yes. Each scan produces a watertight, full-color 3D mesh that exports cleanly into reverse-engineering software — rebuild parametric CAD from a physical part, recover legacy geometry with no drawings, or modify an existing component. The same scan serves both inspection and scan-to-CAD work.
Does the Inspec2 need a dedicated metrology lab or climate control?
No. At 5 kg with a desktop footprint, one USB connection, and a single power cable, it deploys on a workbench, QC station, or production floor — operational in minutes, not days. It delivers lab-grade 0.01 mm accuracy without a dedicated metrology room.
How is the Inspec2 different from a handheld 3D scanner?
The fixed desktop format and 3-axis motorized turntable remove the positional variability inherent to handheld scanning, so it holds 0.01 mm accuracy where professional handhelds typically reach 0.02–0.05 mm. It also runs hands-free — load up to 8 parts, hit start, and it auto-flips, auto-merges, and outputs a complete model per part. Handhelds remain the better choice for large or fixed objects that cannot come to a desktop.
