The most dramatic silk in 3D printing — a shifting tri-tone gloss.
Rev1 PLA Triple Silk is a high-gloss silk PLA whose shiny surface shifts smoothly through three colors across a single print — a rainbow-like tri-tone transition that changes as the model rises and as you move around it. It’s even more eye-catching than dual silk, yet it loads and prints just like regular PLA: low temps, no enclosure, and a standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle. Made for showpieces — the shimmer does the talking.
Why makers reach for Triple Silk
Where PLA Silk gives you one glossy color and Dual Silk shifts between two, Triple Silk shifts between three — the most eye-catching color-transition filament we stock. It prints as easily as standard PLA, so you get statement-piece results without the fuss of engineering materials.
- Three-color silk shift — the print’s color changes as it rises and as you turn it
- High-gloss silk sheen — more dramatic than single or dual silk
- As easy to print as PLA — low temps, no enclosure, standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle
- 10 tri-tone colors — made for decorative and display prints
Built to be seen, not stressed — know the trade-offs.
Rev1 PLA Triple Silk is a decorative material — the glossy tri-tone shift is the whole point, so it’s tuned for looks rather than loads. Be honest about its limits: like all silk PLA it’s a bit more brittle and lower in strength than standard PLA, and it softens at low temperatures (~55°C). It’s the right pick for vases, showpieces, and display models — not for functional, outdoor, or high-heat parts. For those, step up to PETG or ABS from the Rev1 catalog.
Key property summary
- Tensile strength: ~40–50 MPa (typical silk PLA range — lower than standard PLA)
- Flexural modulus: ~3.0–3.3 GPa — stiff, but for display not load-bearing use
- Elongation at break: ~2–5% — slightly more brittle than standard PLA
- Glass transition: ~55°C — softens in hot cars or near motors, like all PLA
- Density: ~1.24 g/cm³ — lighter than PETG or ABS

Works on any FDM printer with standard PLA settings.
Rev1 PLA Triple Silk prints just like regular PLA — one of the most forgiving filaments you can load. If you have a working PLA profile, use it as-is: low temps, no enclosure, and a standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle (it’s not abrasive, so no hardened nozzle needed). Any generic PLA preset in your slicer is a reliable starting point.
Recommended print settings
To show off the full color-shift, print tall models with smooth, flat, continuous surfaces — vases and single-wall showpieces are ideal because the silk transitions across the whole height. Keep cooling high for a glossy finish, and don’t over-dry the filament: excessive drying can dull the silk sheen.
Open-format: works on any 1.75 mm FDM printer.
Because Triple Silk prints at low PLA temperatures with no warp, it is fully compatible with any desktop FDM printer that accepts 1.75 mm filament — no enclosure, no all-metal hot end, no hardened nozzle. A standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle is all you need, since silk PLA is not abrasive.

Where Triple Silk is the right call.
Rev1 PLA Triple Silk excels wherever the tri-color shimmer can show off — vases, showpieces, display models, cosplay, ornaments, gifts, and art. Anything decorative or presentational where the shifting three-tone gloss steals the show. It’s not the pick for functional, outdoor, or high-heat parts; reach for PETG or ABS there.
Common use cases
- Spiral vases and single-wall showpieces
- Display models and statement pieces
- Trade-show and presentation models
- Ornaments, gifts, and decorative art
- Cosplay props, helmets, and figurines
- Decorative desk items and accents
- Decorative architectural and scale models
PLA absorbs moisture. Keep it sealed.
Like all PLA, Triple Silk is hygroscopic and will absorb moisture from the air, leading to stringing, bubbling, and reduced surface quality. Rev1 PLA Triple Silk ships vacuum-sealed with a desiccant pack. After opening, reseal with desiccant or store in an airtight container — but don’t over-dry it, since excessive drying can dull the glossy silk sheen.
Storage & drying guide
- Storage: Sealed bag or airtight container with desiccant
- Ideal humidity: below 20% RH
- Shelf life (sealed): 12–24 months
- Drying (if wet): 45–55°C for 4–6 hours — only if needed; avoid over-drying so the silk gloss stays bright
- Signs of moisture: popping/crackling sounds during print, rough surface, blobs
Rev1 stocks filament dryers and vacuum-seal accessories. Ask about a bundle at checkout or call (248) 707-2950.
PLA Triple Silk vs. PLA Dual Silk vs. PLA Silk
All three are glossy silk PLA that print as easily as standard PLA and are made for decorative, not structural, prints. The difference is drama: PLA Silk gives one shiny color, Dual Silk shifts between two, and Triple Silk shifts between three — the most eye-catching multi-color shimmer of the family.

Common questions about Rev1 PLA Triple Silk
Is Triple Silk hard to print?
No — it prints just like regular PLA and is a great choice for beginners. It runs low-warp on any FDM printer with no heated chamber or enclosure, and a standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle is fine (silk PLA isn’t abrasive). Start with the generic PLA / Silk PLA profile in your slicer: nozzle 210–230°C, bed 50–60°C, cooling fan on.
How does the three-color shift work?
The filament itself changes color along its length, so the glossy silk surface transitions between three shades as the print grows taller — and shimmers differently as you move around it. It’s the same idea as silk PLA, but with three colors instead of one. Tall models with smooth, flat surfaces (like vases) show the full shift best.
How is this different from PLA Silk and PLA Dual Silk?
PLA Silk gives you one glossy color, PLA Dual Silk shifts between two, and PLA Triple Silk shifts between three — the most dramatic multi-color shimmer of the three. All are decorative, high-gloss silk PLA that print as easily as standard PLA.
How strong and heat-resistant is Triple Silk?
It’s a decorative material: like all silk PLA it’s a bit more brittle and lower in strength than standard PLA, and it softens around 55°C. It’s made for vases, showpieces, and display models — not for functional, high-heat, or outdoor parts. For those, choose PETG or ABS instead.
Why are some colors made to order?
Rev1 stocks the highest-volume tri-tone colors in Michigan for same-day shipping. The rest of the 10-color range is produced in batches by the manufacturer — we place orders on your behalf with a 1–3 week fulfillment time. You pay no premium over the in-stock price.
Can I get volume pricing for case quantities?
Yes. Call (248) 707-2950 or use the quote form — Rev1 quotes case (10–12 spools) and pallet quantities with standing-order scheduling for print farms and production environments.
