A brilliant glossy silk finish — as easy to print as PLA.
Rev1 PLA Silk is a decorative single-tone silk PLA that prints with a bright, reflective, almost-metallic sheen — each spool is one lustrous shade that makes finished prints look premium. It runs as easily as regular PLA: low temps, no heated chamber or enclosure, and a standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle. It’s built to be seen, so it shines on decorative and display work rather than structural, load-bearing parts.
Why makers reach for silk PLA
Lead with the shine: PLA Silk turns everyday prints into eye-catching showpieces with a glossy, satin-metallic look straight off the bed — no post-processing. It prints just as easily as standard PLA, sticks to the bed without an enclosure, and gives off minimal odor, so it’s beginner-friendly while still delivering a premium finish.
- Brilliant glossy silk sheen — shinier than matte or standard PLA
- Prints as easily as PLA — low temps, no enclosure, standard brass nozzle
- 6 single-tone silk colors — one lustrous shade per spool
- Best for decorative and display prints, not structural parts
Decorative, not structural — know the trade-offs.
Rev1 PLA Silk is made for looks. The additives that give it that glossy silk sheen also make it a bit more brittle and lower-strength than standard PLA, and like all PLA it softens at low heat (~55°C). It’s the right pick for showpieces, display models, and desk items — not functional, outdoor, or high-heat parts. For those, step up to PETG or ABS from the Rev1 catalog.
Key property summary
- Tensile strength: ~45–55 MPa (typical silk PLA range)
- Flexural modulus: ~3.3 GPa — stiff, but for decorative parts
- Elongation at break: ~2–4% — slightly more brittle than standard PLA
- Glass transition: ~55–60°C — softens in hot cars or near motors
- Density: ~1.24 g/cm³ — lighter than PETG or ABS
Values are representative of standard silk PLA grades. Contact Rev1 for OEM-specific TDS.
6 lustrous single-tone silk colors.
Rev1 PLA Silk comes in 6 shiny silk shades — each a single lustrous tone with a bright, almost-metallic gloss (unlike Dual Silk, which shifts between two colors, every PLA Silk spool is one shade end to end). In-stock shades ship fast same-day from our Michigan warehouse. Made-to-order colors are produced on a 1–3 week lead time at no premium over the in-stock price. Reserve your color today and receive a tracking number when it ships.

Prints like regular PLA — on a standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle.
Rev1 PLA Silk is just as forgiving to print as standard PLA. If you have a working PLA profile, use it as-is — low temps, low warp, no enclosure, and no abrasive hardware; a standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle is all you need. Any generic PLA preset in your slicer is a reliable starting point for a clean, glossy silk finish.
Recommended print settings
For the best sheen, print smooth, flat models so the light catches the silk gloss, and keep cooling high for sharp overhangs. Slightly slower speeds and 2–3 perimeters give the most even shine on decorative parts. Silk PLA prints happily at a wide range of speeds.
Open-format: works on any 1.75 mm FDM printer.
Because PLA Silk prints at low temperatures with no warp on a standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle, it is fully compatible with any desktop FDM printer that accepts 1.75 mm filament — no enclosure, no all-metal hot end, no abrasive-rated or specialty hardware needed.

Where PLA Silk is the right call.
PLA Silk excels wherever looks matter most — its glossy, almost-metallic sheen makes vases, showpieces, display models, cosplay, ornaments, gifts, and art pieces stand out. It’s a decorative material, not a structural one: it’s slightly brittle and low-heat, so it’s not the pick for functional, outdoor, or high-heat parts; reach for PETG or ABS there.
Common use cases
- Vases and decorative showpieces
- Display models and presentation pieces
- Ornaments, gifts, and keepsakes
- Cosplay props, helmets, and figurines
- Art pieces and sculptures
- Architectural display models
- Aesthetic desk items and accents
Keep it sealed — and don’t over-dry it.
Like all PLA, silk PLA is hygroscopic and will absorb moisture from the air, leading to stringing, bubbling, and reduced surface quality. Rev1 PLA Silk ships vacuum-sealed with a desiccant pack. After opening, reseal with desiccant or store in an airtight container. One caveat unique to silk: don’t over-dry it — excessive heat can dull the glossy sheen, so only dry it if it’s actually taken on moisture.
Storage & drying guide
- Storage: Sealed bag or airtight container with desiccant
- Ideal humidity: below 20% RH
- Shelf life (sealed): 12–24 months
- Drying (only if wet): 45–55°C for 4–6 hours — don’t over-dry, it dulls the gloss
- Signs of moisture: popping/crackling sounds during print, rough surface, blobs

PLA Silk vs. Standard PLA vs. PLA Matte
All three print with the same easy, low-temp PLA workflow — the difference is the finish. PLA Silk wins on shine and looks, with a glossy, almost-metallic sheen that makes display pieces pop. It’s a decorative material, though: slightly more brittle than standard PLA, so for functional or load-bearing parts, standard PLA (or a tougher material like PETG or ABS) is the better call.

Common questions about Rev1 PLA Silk
Is PLA Silk hard to print?
No — it prints as easily as regular PLA and is beginner-friendly. It runs low-warp on any FDM printer with no heated chamber or enclosure, on a standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle (nothing abrasive). Start with the generic PLA profile in your slicer: nozzle 210–230°C, bed 50–60°C, cooling fan on.
Why are some colors made to order?
Rev1 stocks the highest-volume silk shades in Michigan for same-day shipping. The rest of the 6-color range is produced in batches by the manufacturer — we place orders on your behalf with a 1–3 week fulfillment time. You pay no premium over the in-stock price.
How strong and heat-resistant is PLA Silk?
PLA Silk is a decorative material, not a structural one. The silk additives make it slightly more brittle and lower-strength than standard PLA, and like all PLA it softens around 55°C — so it’s not for hot cars, near motors, load-bearing, or outdoor use. For functional, high-heat, or outdoor parts, choose PETG or ABS instead.
How do I get the brightest silk sheen?
Print smooth, flat-surfaced models so the light catches the gloss, keep cooling high, and don’t over-dry the filament — excess heat dulls the shine. Slightly slower speeds give the most even, mirror-like finish. The sheen comes straight off the bed, so no sanding or post-processing is needed (sanding actually dulls it).
Can I get volume pricing for case quantities?
Yes. Call (248) 707-2950 or use the quote form — Rev1 quotes case (10–12 spools) and pallet quantities with standing-order scheduling for print farms and production environments.
What if I need a color not listed?
Additional silk shades and specialty finishes may be available by special order. Contact Rev1 with your color spec or Pantone number and we’ll check availability and MOQ.
