7 matte colors. Black & White In stock.
Rev1 PLA Matte is precision-wound, consistently-spooled filament that prints clean matte surfaces without post-processing. Rev1 Technologies stocks and ships it from Auburn Hills, Michigan. Out-of-stock colors are available on a 1–3 week lead time at no premium.

PLA that looks finished the moment it leaves the printer.
Standard PLA has a shiny, semi-glossy surface that makes layer lines stand out and parts look unfinished. Rev1 PLA Matte uses a matting additive in the formulation so the surface scatters light diffusely — the result is a consistent flat finish in every color, on every print, with no extra steps. Same print temperature, same bed adhesion, same ease of use as the PLA you already know.
Why matte finishes matter
Glossy filament reflects light unevenly, making layer lines, stringing, and surface imperfections visible under any angled light. Matte surfaces scatter light uniformly, hiding the texture of print layers and giving parts a clean, professional appearance — closer to injection molding than to 3D printing.
- Diffuse surface hides layer lines and minor surface artifacts
- No sanding, painting, or filler primer required
- Consistent matte finish across all 7 colors
- Same printability as standard PLA — no special settings
Standard PLA strength. Better surface quality.
PLA Matte carries the same mechanical baseline as standard PLA: good rigidity, acceptable tensile strength for low-stress applications, and light weight. It is not an engineering-grade material — for high-load, high-temperature, or chemical-exposure applications, consider PETG, ABS, or PA from the Rev1 catalog.
Key property summary
- Tensile strength: ~50–60 MPa (typical PLA range)
- Flexural modulus: ~3.5 GPa — stiff for light-load housings and fixtures
- Elongation at break: ~3–6% — brittle compared to PETG or TPU
- HDT: ~55–60°C @ 0.45 MPa — not for under-hood or sunlit applications
- Density: ~1.24 g/cm³ — lighter than PETG or ABS

Works on any FDM printer with standard PLA settings.
Rev1 PLA Matte is formulated to print at the same parameters as standard PLA. If you have a working PLA profile, use it as a starting point — you may need to increase temperature 5–10°C to ensure the matting additive melts fully and delivers a uniform finish.
Recommended print settings
For the cleanest matte finish, use 3–4 perimeters and 20–30% infill for decorative parts. Avoid very slow print speeds which can cause over-extrusion and surface sheen.
Open-format: works on any 1.75 mm FDM printer.
Because PLA Matte prints at standard PLA temperatures, it is fully compatible with any desktop FDM printer that accepts 1.75 mm filament — no enclosure, no all-metal hot end, no specialty hardware needed.
Verified compatible printer families
- Bambu Lab (A-series, P-series, X-series) — use Generic PLA profile
- Creality (Ender, CR, K-series)
- Prusa (MK-series, MINI)
- Ultimaker / Makerbot
- Raise3D, Dremel, Qidi Tech
- Any open-format FDM printer accepting 1.75 mm

Where matte finish makes the difference.
PLA Matte excels in applications where surface appearance matters and mechanical demands are moderate — display models, packaging mockups, architectural scale models, product prototypes, signage, cosplay props, and any decorative or presentational print where a professional look is more important than high strength or heat resistance.
Common use cases
- Architectural models and scale replicas
- Product design mockups and packaging protos
- Display pieces, trade-show models
- Signage, nameplates, labels
- Cosplay props and figurines
- Interior enclosures, bezels, and panels
- Educational models and training aids
PLA absorbs moisture. Keep it sealed.
PLA is hygroscopic and will absorb moisture from the air, leading to stringing, bubbling, and reduced surface quality. Rev1 PLA Matte ships sealed with a desiccant pack. After opening, reseal with desiccant or store in an airtight container.
Storage & drying guide
- Storage: Sealed bag or airtight container with desiccant
- Ideal humidity: below 20% RH
- Shelf life (sealed): 12–24 months
- Drying (if wet): 45–55°C for 4–6 hours in a filament dryer or oven
- Signs of moisture: popping/crackling sounds during print, rough surface, blobs
Rev1 stocks filament dryers and vacuum-seal accessories. Ask about a bundle at checkout or call (248) 707-2950.
PLA Matte vs. standard PLA vs. PETG
PLA Matte is the right choice when you need a polished look without post-processing. It is not a performance upgrade over standard PLA — for functional, load-bearing, or outdoor parts, step up to PETG or ABS GF.

Common questions about Rev1 PLA Matte
Can I print PLA Matte at standard PLA settings?
Yes. Start with your existing PLA profile and increase nozzle temperature by 5–10°C if you see surface inconsistency. Bed temperature (50–60°C), cooling, and speed stay the same.
Why are some colors on preorder?
Rev1 stocks Black and White in Michigan because those are highest-volume. Other colors are produced in batches by the manufacturer — we place orders on your behalf with a 1–3 week fulfillment time. You pay no premium over the in-stock price.
Is PLA Matte stronger than regular PLA?
No — PLA Matte is not an engineering-grade upgrade. The matting additive affects surface appearance, not mechanical properties. Tensile strength, HDT, and brittleness are comparable to standard PLA.
Does matte finish hide layer lines completely?
It significantly reduces layer-line visibility, especially under angled light, but it does not eliminate them entirely. Very coarse layer heights (0.3 mm+) will still show some texture. For the cleanest result, print at 0.15–0.20 mm layer height.
Can I get volume pricing for case quantities?
Yes. Call (248) 707-2950 or use the quote form — Rev1 quotes case (10–12 spools) and pallet quantities with standing-order scheduling for print farms and production environments.
What if I need a color not listed?
Additional matte shades and specialty finishes may be available by special order. Contact Rev1 with your color spec or Pantone number and we’ll check availability and MOQ.
