The Stiffened, UV-Stable, Weatherproof Engineering Filament

Rev1 ASA-GF glass-fiber filament spool in natural glass-filled finish

ASA-GF is glass-fiber-reinforced ASA: it keeps ASA’s UV stability and weatherproofing — it won’t yellow, fade, or crack in sunlight and weather — and adds chopped glass fiber for real stiffness, dimensional stability, lower warping, and higher heat deflection than plain ASA. A big step up in rigidity for outdoor structural parts, and more affordable than carbon-fiber ASA-CF. The glass is abrasive, so it needs a hardened-steel nozzle, and like all ASA it rewards an enclosed printer — one natural glass-filled color, on 1 kg and 3 kg spools. Full specifications →

Built for the Outdoors

When the outdoor part also has to stay stiff.

PLA yellows and softens in the sun; plain ASA is UV-stable but can flex and warp on big parts. ASA-GF is glass-fiber-reinforced ASA — it shrugs off sunlight, rain, and heat without fading, chalking, or cracking, and the chopped glass adds real stiffness, dimensional stability, and lower warping than plain ASA. It’s a big step up in rigidity for outdoor structural parts, at a more affordable price than carbon-fiber ASA-CF. The trade-offs: the glass is abrasive, so it needs a hardened-steel nozzle, and like all ASA it wants an enclosed, draft-free printer.

Consistent & Tightly Wound

Even diameter and a clean wind for reliable, warp-free runs.

Round, consistent 1.75 mm glass-filled filament feeds smoothly so long enclosed prints don’t fail.

Every Rev1 ASA-GF spool is wound evenly and held to a tight diameter, so it feeds without under-extrusion across a full 1 kg or 3 kg run — through a hardened-steel nozzle for the abrasive glass fiber. Vacuum-sealed with desiccant to arrive dry — so it prints clean straight out of the bag.

Dialing It In

Print settings for clean, crack-free ASA-GF.

ASA-GF prints like ASA — it rewards a stable, draft-free environment — with one hard requirement: the abrasive glass fiber needs a hardened-steel nozzle. An enclosure, a hot bed, and minimal part cooling keep corners down and layers bonded.

240–260°C
Nozzle

Hot for strong layer adhesion — and a hardened-steel nozzle is required, as the glass fiber wears out brass fast.

90–110°C
Bed

A hot bed plus glue or an adhesive sheet prevents the corners from lifting.

Enclosure
Keep It Warm

An enclosure holds chamber heat and blocks drafts — the #1 fix for warping and cracking.

Dry It
Keep It Dry

Glass-filled ASA prints best dry — dry the spool before long runs and store it sealed with desiccant.

Where ASA-GF Earns Its Keep

The go-to material for stiff structural parts that live outside.

ASA-GF trades PLA's easy printing for real outdoor structural performance: UV stability, weatherproofing, high heat deflection, and glass-fiber stiffness and dimensional stability that plain ASA can't match — at a more affordable price than carbon-fiber ASA-CF. The glass is abrasive, so print it through a hardened-steel nozzle. One natural glass-filled color, on 1 kg and 3 kg spools, stocked in our US warehouse.

Automotive Exterior Brackets

Sun, heat, and load? That's ASA-GF's home turf.

UV-stable and glass-fiber-stiffened for exterior brackets that won't fade, sag, or crack in the sun.

Exterior mounting brackets, trim supports, and structural body pieces that bake in the sun and get rained on — ASA-GF holds its color, its stiffness, and its shape where plain ASA would flex and PLA would warp.

Camera & Sensor Housings

Security-camera and sensor housings built for the weather.

Rigid, UV-stable shells that protect electronics outdoors year-round.

Outdoor camera, antenna, and sensor housings live in full sun and driving rain — ASA-GF's weatherproofing keeps them from yellowing or cracking, and the glass fiber keeps thin walls stiff and dimensionally true so lids and seals stay tight.

Rooftop & Solar Mounts

Rooftop and solar mounts that don't sag in the sun.

Glass-fiber-stiffened, UV-stable brackets that resist heat cycling and creep under load.

ASA-GF is the pick for rooftop and solar-panel mounting brackets — it stays UV-stable through years of full-sun exposure, and the glass fiber gives it the stiffness and low creep to hold panels and hardware square where plain ASA would soften and sag.

How It Compares

ASA-GF vs. plain ASA vs. ASA-CF.

All three are UV-stable and weatherproof. ASA-GF adds glass-fiber stiffness and dimensional stability over plain ASA while staying affordable; carbon-fiber ASA-CF is stiffer still but costs more; plain ASA is the easiest to print and the only one that smooths with acetone.

FAQ

Rev1 ASA-GF — Common Questions

Do I need an enclosure to print ASA-GF?

Strongly recommended. Like all ASA, ASA-GF warps and cracks when it cools unevenly or hits a draft — though the glass fiber helps it warp less than plain ASA. An enclosure holds chamber heat and blocks airflow, which is the single biggest factor in clean, crack-free prints. A heated bed at 90–110 °C is also essential.

Is ASA-GF really UV-stable and weatherproof?

Yes — it keeps ASA’s signature UV and weather resistance, so parts won’t yellow, fade, chalk, or crack in sunlight and rain the way ABS or PLA do. ASA-GF adds glass-fiber stiffness on top of that, making it the go-to for outdoor structural parts: automotive exterior brackets, weatherproof enclosures, mounts, sensor housings, solar mounts, and drone frames.

What color and sizes are available?

One color — Natural, the grey-tan glass-filled finish — on 1 kg and 3 kg spools. 3 kg spools are in stock and ship fast from Auburn Hills, Michigan; 1 kg is made-to-order and ships in 1–3 weeks. Pricing is $44.99 per 1 kg. Pick your spool size in the buy-box, or ask us about case quantities.

How do I stop ASA-GF from warping and cracking?

Enclose the printer, run a 90–110 °C bed with glue or ASA slurry, keep part cooling low or off, and avoid drafts and AC vents. The glass fiber gives ASA-GF better dimensional stability and lower warp than plain ASA, but it still cools like ASA — so a warm, draft-free chamber matters.

Do I need a special nozzle for ASA-GF?

Yes — a hardened-steel nozzle is required. The chopped glass fiber is abrasive and quickly wears out standard brass nozzles, opening up the bore and ruining dimensional accuracy. A hardened-steel (or equivalent wear-resistant) nozzle in 0.4 mm or larger handles it cleanly.

Can I acetone-smooth ASA-GF to a glossy finish?

Not really — the glass fiber prevents a clean vapor-smoothed surface, so ASA-GF is best left as a matte, structural finish. If you specifically want acetone vapor-smoothing and a glossy, molded look, choose plain Rev1 ASA instead; ASA-GF is built for stiffness, not surface finish.

How stiff and heat-resistant is ASA-GF?

The glass fiber roughly doubles flexural modulus over plain ASA (~4,500 MPa vs ~2,100 MPa) and raises heat deflection to about 105 °C, with better dimensional stability and lower creep — at the cost of lower elongation and impact toughness. It’s stiffer than plain ASA but not as stiff as carbon-fiber ASA-CF.

When should I use ASA-CF, plain ASA, or PLA/PETG instead?

For maximum stiffness on outdoor structural parts, step up to carbon-fiber ASA-CF (stiffer, but pricier). For easy outdoor prints or acetone smoothing where you don’t need the extra rigidity, plain ASA is simpler and cheaper. For easy indoor prints with no enclosure, PLA or PETG are the pick. ASA-GF is the affordable middle ground: stiff, UV-stable, and weatherproof.

Can Rev1 quote bulk or volume orders?

Yes. Tell us the quantity and we confirm stock and quote case pricing with standing-order scheduling, usually within one business day. 3 kg spools ship fast from stock; made-to-order 1 kg spools ship in 1–3 weeks. Call (248) 707-2950.
