Flame-Retardant, Self-Extinguishing ABS for Fire-Safe Enclosures

Rev1 ABS Fireproof flame-retardant filament spool

Rev1 ABS Fireproof is a flame-retardant, self-extinguishing ABS engineered for parts where fire safety matters: it stops supporting a flame and self-extinguishes when the source is removed, targeting a UL94 V-0-style rating as its design intent. You keep ABS toughness and heat resistance (~90–100°C) in an enclosure-grade material — ideal for junction boxes, power-supply housings, and control-panel enclosures. In 3 colors, on 1 kg and 3 kg spools. Full specifications →

Flame-Retardant Engineering ABS

When the part has to stop a flame.

Standard ABS is tough and heat-resistant, but it burns. Rev1 ABS Fireproof adds flame-retardant chemistry so the material self-extinguishes: it stops supporting a flame and goes out when the ignition source is removed, targeting a UL94 V-0-style rating as its design intent. You keep ABS toughness and heat resistance (~90–100°C) in an enclosure-grade material — the safer choice for electrical and electronics parts where flammability counts. It prints like ABS (enclosed, draft-free printer) in 3 colors.

Consistent & Tightly Wound

Even diameter and a clean wind for reliable, warp-free runs.

Round, consistent 1.75 mm filament feeds smoothly so long enclosed prints don’t fail.

Every Rev1 ABS Fireproof spool is wound evenly and held to a tight diameter, so it feeds without under-extrusion across a full 1 kg or 3 kg run. Vacuum-sealed with desiccant to arrive dry — and it runs on a standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle, since the flame-retardant additives aren’t abrasive.

Dialing It In

Print settings for clean, crack-free ABS Fireproof.

ABS Fireproof prints just like standard ABS: it rewards a stable, draft-free environment. An enclosure, a hot bed, and minimal part cooling are what keep corners down and layers bonded. The flame-retardant additives aren’t abrasive, so a standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle is all you need.

230–250°C
Nozzle

Hot enough for strong layer adhesion; a standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle is fine — no hardened nozzle needed.

90–110°C
Bed

A hot bed plus glue or an adhesive sheet prevents the corners from lifting — it warps like ABS.

Enclosure
Keep It Warm

An enclosure holds chamber heat and blocks drafts — the #1 fix for warping and cracking.

Ventilate
Airflow

Like all ABS, it emits a styrene odor while printing; run it in a ventilated space or with filtration.

How It Compares

ABS Fireproof vs. ABS vs. PC.

Pick by what the part has to survive. ABS Fireproof wins on flame retardancy and fire safety while printing like standard ABS; plain ABS covers general functional parts; PC steps up for structural, high-temperature work.

FAQ

Rev1 ABS Fireproof — Common Questions

What makes ABS Fireproof flame-retardant?

It’s an ABS compounded with flame-retardant additives so it self-extinguishes: it stops supporting a flame and goes out once the ignition source is removed, rather than continuing to burn. It’s engineered toward a UL94 V-0-style rating as a design target — not a certified test result — for parts where flammability matters.

Is it certified to UL94 V-0?

We describe it as flame-retardant and self-extinguishing, targeting a UL94 V-0-style rating as the design intent. Treat that as guidance, not a certified, tested rating on your specific printed part — printed geometry, wall thickness, and settings all affect real-world flammability. Ask us for the current data sheet before specifying it for a regulated application.

What colors and sizes are available?

Three colors — Black, Grey, and Natural — on 1 kg and 3 kg spools. Pick your color and spool size in the buy-box, or ask us about case quantities.

Does it print like regular ABS?

Yes. Print at 230–250 °C on a 90–110 °C bed in an enclosure — it warps like ABS, so keep it warm and draft-free. The flame-retardant additives aren’t abrasive, so a standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle is all you need; no hardened nozzle required.

What is ABS Fireproof best used for?

Electrical and electronics parts where fire safety counts: junction boxes, power-supply and appliance housings, DIN-rail mounts, switch and outlet faceplates, cable-management raceways, and control-panel enclosures. It’s a safety-conscious enclosure material, not a high-strength structural or high-temp engineering plastic.

Is it safe to print indoors?

Like all ABS, it gives off a styrene odor while printing, so use it in a ventilated space or with an enclosure and filtration. Many users vent the enclosure outdoors or run a carbon/HEPA filter.

How heat-resistant is ABS Fireproof?

It holds its shape to roughly 90–100 °C — comparable to standard ABS and well past PLA and PETG — suitable for enclosures and near-motor electronics. For sustained higher temperatures or structural loads, step up to PC or ABS-CF; for outdoor use, consider ASA.

Is the 3 kg spool better value?

Yes — the 3 kg spool lowers cost per kilogram and means fewer spool changes on long or production runs. It’s the go-to for shops and print farms.

Can Rev1 quote bulk or a specific color?

Yes. Tell us the color and quantity and we confirm stock and quote case pricing with standing-order scheduling, usually within one business day. Call (248) 707-2950.
