Engineering-Grade PETG

Structural stiffness — without the headaches of engineering polymers.

PETG is the practical workhorse of desktop 3D printing — easy to run, low odor, dimensionally stable. CarbonX PETG+CF takes that forgiving base and reinforces it with engineering-grade chopped carbon fiber to deliver up to 2.5× the stiffness and roughly 20% higher strength than standard PETG. 3DXTech compounds it in the USA into a consistent, matte-black filament so you can produce stiff, lightweight jigs, fixtures, drone parts, and end-use structural components on the printer you already own.

Stiffness with Less Weight

The rigidity of carbon fiber — in an easy-printing PETG.

High modulus lets you make lighter parts without sacrificing stiffness.

Carbon fiber raises CarbonX PETG+CF to a 5230 MPa tensile modulus and a 5740 MPa flexural modulus — the rigidity designers need to remove material and save weight while parts stay stiff. The amorphous PETG base gives low, near-isotropic warp and a premium matte surface quality, so functional brackets, drone frames, and end-use parts print clean on a standard heated-bed machine with a hardened nozzle — no heated chamber, no exotic hot end.

Why Carbon-Fiber PETG

Rigidity, dimensional stability, and a premium finish.

CarbonX PETG+CF is built for structural, engineering-grade applications — and unlike nylon-CF grades, it doesn't demand a dry box or a heated chamber. All figures below are from the 3DXTech CarbonX CF PETG technical data sheet (Rev 3.0).

5230 MPa
Tensile Modulus

High-modulus stiffness (ISO 527) from carbon-fiber reinforcement — up to 2.5× unfilled PETG.

56 MPa
Tensile Strength

Break strength at ISO 527 — roughly 20% higher than standard PETG.

80 MPa
Flexural Strength

Strong in bending (ISO 178) with a 5740 MPa flexural modulus — rigid, not floppy.

77°C
Deflection Temp

Heat deflection at 0.45 MPa (ISO 75), with an 80°C glass transition — stable in service.

1.34 g/cc
Density

Consistent carbon-filled density (ISO 1183) for stiff, dimensionally stable structural parts.

No Chamber
Easy to Print

Runs on practically any heated-bed printer, open-air — no enclosed high-temp machine required.

Printing CarbonX PETG+CF

Easy to run — with one important nozzle rule.

These are 3DXTech's recommended starting conditions (from the spool label and TDS). It behaves like standard PETG — but carbon fiber is abrasive, so a hardened nozzle is a must.

230–260°C
Extruder

Wide processing window (up to 270°C works) — no high-temp hardware needed.

70–90°C
Bed

A PEI or textured build surface gives reliable first-layer grip with low warp.

Not Required
Heated Chamber

Prints open-air like standard PETG — no enclosure needed for dimensional stability.

Hardened
Nozzle (0.4 mm min)

Use a hardened-steel or abrasion-resistant nozzle — carbon fiber wears out brass fast.

0.25 mm+
Layer Height

Run 0.25 mm or thicker layers for the best strength and consistent flow with the filled filament.

65°C / 4h
Dry Before Printing

Absorbs ~3× less moisture than ABS — a quick, infrequent dry keeps prints clean.

Where It's Used

Built for lightweight, load-bearing structures.

Stiffness That Flies

Vibration-resistant drone & UAV parts.

Landing skids, arms, and mounts that stay light while surviving hard landings.

Where standard PETG flexes, CarbonX PETG+CF holds its line. Landing skids, arms, and camera mounts keep drones light while resisting the vibration and hard landings that crack unfilled plastic. The carbon reinforcement damps resonance and adds rigidity exactly where airframes need it — a genuine stiffness-to-weight upgrade over plain PETG.

On the Bed

Prints clean, complex geometry — like this bladed impeller.

Sharp bridging and overhangs in a stiff, dimensionally stable print.

The stiff carbon matrix and low warp of CarbonX PETG+CF hold fine detail on demanding geometry — thin vanes, ducts, and internal ribbing — on an open FFF machine with a hardened nozzle. The matte carbon-fiber surface hides layer lines and reads as a finished engineering part straight off the plate, with no heated chamber and no post-machining.

FAQ

3DXTech CarbonX PETG+CF — Common Questions

Do I need a special printer?

No heated chamber is required. You need a printer with a heated bed (70–90°C), a hotend that reaches roughly 230–260°C, and a hardened-steel nozzle. It prints open-air like standard PETG, so most desktop printers can run it once a hardened nozzle is fitted.

Why do I need a hardened nozzle?

The carbon fiber that gives this filament its stiffness is abrasive and will quickly wear out a standard brass nozzle. Use a hardened-steel or other abrasion-resistant nozzle, 0.4 mm minimum.

Do I have to dry it?

PETG+CF absorbs roughly 3× less moisture than ABS, so drying is quick and infrequent. If a spool has been open a while, dry it at 65°C for about 4 hours before printing for the best surface finish and layer adhesion.

How is it different from a nylon-CF filament?

Both are carbon-fiber reinforced. PETG+CF is stiffer at the modulus level, much less moisture-sensitive, and prints open-air with no heated chamber — easier and cheaper to run. Nylon-CF is tougher and handles higher heat but wants drying and often a chamber. We'll help you choose based on your part.

What diameters and reel sizes are available?

Black only, in 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm, on 750 g and 2 kg reels. The 750 g reel is sized for Bambu AMS, Creality CFS, and Anycubic ACE-Pro systems and ships from stock; the 2 kg reel is a special-order production size (MOQ 10) — contact Rev1 to confirm availability.

Is it made in the USA?

Yes — 3DXTech manufactures CarbonX PETG+CF in its 68,000 ft² facility in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with a published data sheet and lot traceability.
