Industrial USA-made Tough PLA, with a published datasheet behind it.
3DXTech compounds ECOMAX™ Tough PLA in Grand Rapids, Michigan from 100% virgin NatureWorks® PLA, with published print and material data. Rev1 Technologies is your authorized 3DXTech reseller and US support partner, Auburn Hills, Michigan.
PLA that prints as easily — but takes an impact instead of snapping.
Standard PLA is stiff, easy, and popular — but brittle. ECOMAX™ Tough PLA keeps the effortless printing and biopolymer sustainability of PLA while adding the impact resistance and ductility that industrial-grade parts need. It's compounded in the USA from 100% virgin NatureWorks® PLA resin, prints on practically any desktop printer with no enclosure and no hardened nozzle, and finishes with a lower gloss for a cleaner, more professional look.

Impact resistance and 65% elongation — without the printing headaches.
Durable, less-brittle parts from a filament that just prints.
Tough PLA stretches to roughly 65% elongation before it breaks — far more ductile than standard PLA, which shatters. It absorbs impact instead of cracking, so functional parts survive drops and handling. And it still prints on a standard heated bed with a normal brass nozzle at ordinary PLA temperatures — no enclosure, no abrasive fiber, no exotic hotend. That's the point: engineering-grade toughness with PLA-grade ease.
Real engineering properties, from a published TDS.
These are 3DXTech's published ECOMAX™ Tough PLA values (TDS v1), tested on an open-source FDM/FFF machine with a 0.4 mm nozzle at 0.25 mm layers and 100% infill, ISO methods.
Strength at break (ISO 527) — stronger than typical PLA.
Stiffness under load (ISO 527) — parts stay rigid and dimensionally stable.
Strong in bending (ISO 178) with a 2875 MPa flexural modulus.
High ductility (ISO 527) — parts flex and take impact instead of shattering.
Deflection temp at 0.45 MPa (ISO 75) — higher than standard PLA.
ISO 1183 — efficient part weight and predictable spool yield.
Easy to run — standard PLA settings, no enclosure.
3DXTech's recommended starting conditions. ECOMAX™ Tough PLA is unfilled and non-abrasive, so no hardened nozzle is needed and a heated chamber is not required.
Standard PLA hotend range — runs on practically any desktop printer.
Prints on a cool-to-warm bed — even unheated beds work with the right surface.
PLA prints with minimal warping, so an enclosure is optional.
No hardened nozzle needed — unfilled PLA is non-abrasive, so a standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle is fine.
No special layer-height concerns — runs cleanly across the usual range.
Drying at 65°C for ~4 hours gives the best surface and consistency.
From prototypes to durable, low-gloss functional parts.

Off practically every desktop 3D printer.
Print prototypes, fixtures, enclosures, and durable end-use components.
Because it's impact-resistant and ductile with a clean low-gloss finish, Tough PLA suits parts that go into service — not just look-see prototypes. Print jigs and fixtures, brackets and housings that take a knock, cosplay and display parts that need a professional matte look, or functional prototypes for form, fit, and function. It prints on the hardware you already own — Prusa, Ender, Bambu, Ultimaker, and more — from a plant-based biopolymer.
Three colors — every one the same tough blend.

Black, Dark Grey & White.
Choose your color in the buy-box — the spool preview updates as you pick.
ECOMAX™ Tough PLA ships in three clean, low-gloss colors. Every color prints the same tough blend, so you can standardize your settings and just swap the reel. Need a specific color in bulk? Ask us about case pricing.

FAQ
3DXTech ECOMAX Tough PLA — Common Questions
How is Tough PLA different from standard PLA?
Tough PLA is an engineered blend with far higher ductility (about 65% elongation vs standard PLA's low single digits) and better impact resistance, plus a lower-gloss finish. It prints just as easily as regular PLA but makes parts that flex and take a knock instead of shattering.
Do I need a special printer?
No. Any desktop printer works — a hotend that reaches 200–230°C and a bed at 23–60°C. No enclosure is required and a standard brass nozzle is fine.
Do I need a hardened nozzle?
No. ECOMAX™ Tough PLA is unfilled and non-abrasive, so a standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle prints it without any accelerated wear.
Is it a sustainable material?
Yes. It's a plant-based biopolymer made from 100% virgin NatureWorks® PLA resin, compounded in the USA.
What colors and sizes are available?
Three colors — Black, Dark Grey, and White — in 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm on 750 g reels. Ask us for bulk.
Is it made in the USA?
Yes — 3DXTech manufactures and compounds ECOMAX™ Tough PLA in its 68,000 sq-ft facility in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with published data and lot traceability.
